Hello, today is Poetry Prose Day, and I read the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling for you. We’ve also got affirmation.
Rudyard Kipling is one of the best-known of the late Victorian poets and story-tellers. He lived from 1865 to 1936.
Originally published in 1895, “If” is a very inspirational poem is written in the form of paternal advice to the poet’s son, John. The ideas are just as contemporary today as when the poem was written.
It’s about keeping one’s balance when everything is churning about you. It’s about being true to ourselves and staying on the path, and not getting drawn into other people’s dramas. It’s about being happy within ourselves.
Of course I couldn’t help adding an extra line at the end to make the poem apply to both sexes!
