It is said that discipline is the difference between choosing what you want most and what you want now.
It seems logical that you would automatically choose what we want most. Sometimes excuses pop up that put us off the path to our goal. We feel too tired to do the task that we have set for ourselves so we put it off till another day. But sometimes that other day never comes. Sometimes we feel like – let me watch this TV programme, let me play this game for a little bit, and then I’ll get busy.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
What is it in us that allows these excuses to rule our lives. Is it because we are truly too busy? Is it because we really don’t have time or can’t make time? Or could it be that in some cases we are afraid.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
We can be afraid that we might, just might, succeed if we gave it our 100% effort. And if we succeed there might be some sacrifices that need to be made. And maybe we are not yet ready to do that. Alternatively it could be that we are afraid that we will just mess things up if we really try to do this thing. Or we will fail and be embarrassed & then be full of self dislike.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
It could be that the endeavour is such a big project that we feel intimidated & can’t even make a start.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
So maybe the first thing to do is figure out why we are putting off getting on with pursuing our goal.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
Why are we finding so much fascination with what we want to do now overriding what we want to do most.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
So it’s time to have a deep think. Let’s figure out what we really want to do & get clear on this project or goal. What is our ‘why’.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
With pen and paper, or on your electronic device write down exactly what you’re working on. Then why is it so important that you pursue this path & suceed.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
Then break it down into action steps that are do-able and within your lifestyle. If you work all day you might not have the same energy as someone who is free all day. So take this into account and budget the time accordingly. That will hopefully take care of the ‘I’m too tired’ excuse. Every time you feel like not bothering, remember your big ‘why’ to spur yourself on.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
If you think you’ll fail….. Follow the same plan & maybe take baby steps instead of giant leaps towards the goal to get your confidence up.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
If you think this goal might take you away from the life you’re comfortable with now, then think if your why is strong enough to either make adaptions to it so you can move yourself ahead yet still blend with a bit of your current lifestyle, or if you just need to commit to a total change.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
It is said that discipline is the difference between choosing what you want most and what you want now. Once you’re clear in what you want and why, the discipline part becomes much easier.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
And remember to reward yourself from time to time as you stick to doing the work and start to make those advances that will have you living your dream in due course
.
๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
So…How do you stick to disciplining yourself when you start to get a bit lazy or distracted and start to stray from your course?
